    From the Artistic Director:

The season will begin with the Touring Ensemble ’s first stand-alone concert on August 15 in Northeast Harbor (Mt. Desert Island) under the direction of Tom Wallace, our new Associate Director and Collaborative Pianist. With Tom’s appointment to the artistic staff (MM Piano Performance Univ. of MD, prolific published composer and arranger, experienced conductor) the Chorus is positioned better than ever to reach out and achieve its vision: to be the premier community performing arts organization in Maine.

I am energized about our upcoming winter concert, “Believe.” The main focus of the concert will be Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony Of Carols, accompanied in the traditional manner by concert harp. In January, we will create our second CD using music from this concert. In addition to the winter concert, the Chorus will perform joint concerts with Ensemble Vocal Ganymède of Montréal and Portland’s own Women in Harmony. The Pride concert will have a popular half (an historical romp through the music of Boy Bands) and a classical half (music of Elizabethan England). The Touring Ensemble, in addition to appearing at chorus concerts, is slated to sing at the USM drag show as well as Male House Rock, the annual fund-raiser for the Boy Singers of Maine.

These are exciting times for the chorus, and great opportunity awaits its members. I hope to see you at our next open rehearsal, Wednesday, February 17, 7pm, Williston West Church, 32 Thomas St., Portland, ME.
